The default notice will tell what you need to do and what may happen if you do nothing. Always seek advice if you do not understand the default notice.
Seek free help and advice.
The law regarding non-payment of debts can be complex. There are several organisations listed below, which offer free independent help and advice.
Ask a debt adviser to negotiate on your behalf.
A debt adviser can suggest the best way to deal with your debt problems and ensure you prioritise your debts.
A court may give you more time to repay your debt.
This should be a last resort as a court can only help you in some circumstances. Check with a debt adviser before considering court action.
Remember, if you don't act now, the lender may take action against you, so don't ignore the problem!!
The lender can demand payment of money owing, or repossess goods that are on hire purchase. In cases where the debt is secured against your home, your home may be repossessed [hyperlink to repo page]. Your credit file will also be effected for up to six years, making it more difficult and expensive to get credit.
